I am slowly preparing for my upgrade in the next month or so. I have decided to stick with ATI this round as their new cards sound like they will be a good bang for the buck so I will be sticking with the X48 chipset.

I have also decided on the Q6600 quad as it is the best bang for the buck as well, along with the 2x2Gb G.Skill DDR2-1000Mhz RAM.

I am now to the motherboard, I have narrowed it down these two:

DFI LanParty LT X48 $269.99

or

Asus Rampage Formula X48 $289.99

I plan to overclock the Q6600 pretty far, and will be getting a watercooling setup to go along with this new rig, so basically my decision will be based on the replies I get from all of you guys.

I will mention now that I am a beginner overclocker, but I am confident I can learn fast. That is probably the main thing keeping me from going with the DFI straight away is the extremely advanced BIOS. Anyway, what are the high and low points of each board, and which will take my Q6600 to the moon with ease and the least amount of hassle?

All I can say is that you've got the same setup as me I'm planning on getting that DFI board in July...and I haven't heard much about the ASUS board. I can say that if you need to RMA an ASUS board, be prepared for a looooooong wait.

OMG, the DFI has non-linked heatpipes, that is awesome. I will definently check out DFI boards now.

The Rampage is a great board. I've had no problems with mine and the only thing that holds me back from getting 4.0GHz 24/7 is my temps. I've even booted at 4.2GHz, but didn't put it under load. If you have a CPU only loop, good waterblock, 1066MHz RAM, and a three fan radiator, you'll get 4.0GHz no problem unless you have some crazy high VID on that chip.

Yea I plan on going with the Fuzion V2, BIX II, MCP655, - > CPU loop only. Hmm, so both boards are getting lots of praise I see.

Both are great boards by great companies. You can't go wron with either.

You also can't go wrong with the maximus fomula running the RAMPAGE BIOS.
