my 8400 overclock

Thread Starter
EDIT: NEW STUFF
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
At load my temps are 60/60 in core temp so 50/50 on real temp.

Running prime95 CPUz shows

Core Voltage 1.168V
Core Speed 3818.3 MHz
Multiplier x 9.0
Bus Speed 424.3
1697.0 MHz

Settings I've changed
RAM timing 5-5-5-15
DRAM Voltage 2.00V
Disable the power saver options
VCore increased 25mv i think

Everest showing
Chipset 41
PWM 37

Think my cpu temps are a lil high but shouldn't my vcore be higher at this point?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Old stuff pre overclock

Core Temp
Core 0: 47
Core 1: 40

Real Temp:
37 30

Kinda a big difference.

And a quick prime test

Think my temps are a lil high.....

(Using a vendetta 2 for the time being also)

Which program should I be using to test temps?

Real temp for the 8400 and 3110's. Yeah I must admit those temps still are a little high. My Zalman's keep my temps at 30 idle, 38 under load. I normally keep my room at 75F. Could be your thermal compound of all things.

If I can make out the graphic, it says 48c when your running Prime. Can't tell if your overclocking or what your current Vcore is.

Realtemp will be 10c less than Coretemp (difference in what they believe is the Tjunction max temp (95 vs 105).

Are you using your TRUE as per your sig?

At stock speed I was getting 42c under load with a TRUE, so your not too far off mine.

Your just scraping over 1/2 way to your max core temp anyway...

What's your CPU temp idle and under load?

the true won't arrive for a few days. ATM i'm using a vendetta 2(I must say... I HATE PUSH PINS) I don't think it has a good connection because of the push pins ...

Not overclocked

At idle core temp showing 47 / 46
and real temp showing 37/36

I think my problem is dealing with mountin my heat sink.... Is there a good description of how to use push pins? I just can't get a good solid connection. I reseated the heat sink and if I try to run prime 95 my temps sky rocket so I have to stop it after a few seconds

reseated again(i hate pushpins) now I'm able to run prime 95. On (hardest test?) the top test on tortue test small ffts I've been running for 6 min with core temp showing 57/57 and real temp 47/47. My idle temps are showing in core temp 47/42 and 37/31 in real temp.

CPU-Z is also showing my core speed at 2000.0 MHz with a 6.0 Multiplier. I just changed the multiplier in the bios to 9.0 any reason that cpu-z would be showing something different?

Are my temps good enough to start overclocking some? or should I still try to get them down more?

Edit: Just needed to refresh cpu-z and it now shows 3000.0 MHz

Updated...

Also reseated / applied as5 again

Temps seem to have dropped 2C under load

I'm at 3.9 now with core voltage(CPU-Z) at idle is 1.2 and under load is 1.168. I think i've reached my my limit on cooling however. At idle temps are now 47/46(core temp) 37/36(real temp) under load it is 61/61(core temp) 51/51(real temp)

So what should I do? Is it safe to stay at this level? I'm using a vendetta 2 with a bolt thru kit until my TRUE arives maybe I should wait for it and go back down to 3.8 were i had temps at idle about 3C cooler and under load about 2C cooler?

I'd wait for the TRUE IMO.
