It would be great to think that this could be used in desktop computer cooling (i have wanted to try it soo much
), sadly its pretty impractical as A) it would be nearly impossible to cool the large number of atoms on, say a heatsink and B) even the most hardcore of overclockers don't need temperatures of a few nano-kelvin above absolute zero. But laser cooling IS essential in providing the cooling required in quantum computers, so watch this space. Even if it might be 20+ years before we see desktop laser-cooled computers.
