Right...
some advise needed here on what way to go here...

£103 = 2x AMD AM2 Athlon 64 6000+
Dual Core 3.0GHz, 2x 1MB Cache, Retail

£123 = 3x - AMD Phenom™ X3 8750,
Toliman Core,2.4GHz, HT 3600MHz, 3.5MB Total Cache, Retail

153 = 4x - AMD Phenomâ„¢ 9850 Black Edition,
Agena Core, Socket AM2+, 2.5GHz, HT 2000MHz, 4MB Cache, Retail

3 Processors - £50 of a differenace.
Which one is better suited for gaming and OC'n?

6000+ dont oc worth crap Ive used to have one. The X3's are fail and were quietly released so i dont know.. Ive heard the X3's were a fail. The Phenom 9850BE is really good. people have been doing well with them and a lot of people are getting them to 3.2ghz. i would say the quad out of all of them. or you could just go buy an E8400 or Q6600 from intel for the price of the Phenom and have double the performance.
for quad i'd say the 9750 looks good even.. i heard they're putting a 95w 9750 out soon if its not already

For dual core... if you so choose to go that path i'd get a 5000+BE and of the hell out of it..

Tricore... i have no idea!... No body does lol

The tri-cores seem to do okay in multithreaded apps that can actually make use of three cores, but in my opinion they're not cheap enough compared to the Agena to sacrifice one core. They could probably have filled a niche if they had smarter prices..

The Black Edition 9850 is the only AMD I would go for at this time.

Please be serious with comments. I've checked a lot of benchies online. But Q6600 performance is 10-12% better at most. I am using a phenom 9500 oveclocked at 2.82 Ghz. With TLB fix disabled i am outperforming q6600 in the everest CPU and memory benchmarking and just behinf Giant 8x Xeon

4x - £153 - AMD Phenom™ 9850 Black Edition, Agena Core

4x - £175 - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700, Kentsfield Core

And for the VERY VERY rich...

If you want AMD got for 9850. If you want the best go for Q6600 as it can clock to 3.6GHz. 3.0 is very easy to achive.

If you are willing to splurge on a $130 motherboard and are going to overclock, then the Intel is a good move (3.2 is a gimme on just about all Intel quads, with 3.6 easily possible on Q6700's)

On the AMD side, I think that you could probably hit 2.8 with their quads, last I heard 3.0-3.2 was the top overclock for these. Don't know if the future 45nm chips will also be for the same socket.

It is really up to you on what path. Intel will give you more performance once overclocked, no question about that. It is just a matter of "Is the performance worth spending the $350 for a chip and motherboard".

I dont mean to start a war, or argument, but you have to relize that the benchmarks on websites are not overclocked. Im sure a Q6600 overclocked would do much better, especially since you can get them over 3Ghz easy as long as you have the cooling

at stock....which is 2.4 for a q6600. forget about the fact that you can easily OC it above 3GHz even with a half-decent mobo, ram and cooling
