the L7455 is behind 530MHz and missing 4MB of Cache compared to the X7470, yet it is still priced the same.

Typo?

They're not for you! Has anyone taken a look at the 4S CPU prices lately? They've never been exactly 'affordable'.

Guys stop saying they are too expensive! They are for a very specific purpose. Read the original article.

Could you put "THESE ARE FOR SOCKET 604 SERVERS ONLY" maybe in the original post, in red lettering?

People never read the article around here, quite sad.

cmon did you read any informations on it?

To you and all the others saying it is expansive, worse than the upcoming nehalem or wont hit their home PCs:

This is a Socket 604 CPU.
Running in Multi Socket Server Systems.
A normal Blade Server Mainboard takes 4 of them.

The Companies running Server racks with multiple Blades are willing to pay this, to increase their performance by 50% (24 vs 16 Cores per Blade).
But mainly it is easy for them - no Mainboard or Software change.
[what is a very important factor for those companies]

Intel did a new design to combine 6 Cores on one DIE.
This research costs are part of the product price, too.
And Intel wouldn't have done it if there were no market ;o)

At all it is a pure Server CPU.
(not like the 3000 XEONs)
It needs a special Socket, Chipset, Memory, and comes with zero Overclocking possibility...

[EDIT]
NrGx and trueg50 said it faster than me ^^
