ULTIMATE TUNIQ MOD!!!! Air PRO....!!! - Page 3

I lapped my Tunic Tower as well and am pretty happy with the results but with my cpu up to 390x9 multiplier it gets way to how under load.... On the other hand I'm only running the fan at aprox 1660rpms.... I'm trying to keep the noise down and at the same time receive the best oc.. Still debating on weather I should lap the cpu or not and after reading this im wondering if I should put paste on those pipes like XX did.

Couldn't hurt to do it, but its a messy job lol. Gahhh i gotta get a mod in here and clean up most of the crappy posts this was meant to be a faq not a myspace Forum posting

It does help though.

Can I ask how you guys went about lapping? I have my Tuniq Tower 120 sitting besides me now, and I don't know what grain sandpaper to use etc. I will probably install it in the next 1-2 days. But I am also wondering wether to use the paste supplied?

I r n00b btw, incase you couldn't guess, lol. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Did you lap before you did the other stuff? Lapping will drop 5C. Why did you remove the H bracket? Was there some heat being lost to it?

started at 80 till all Silver was gone, then 150 till smooth then 800 then 1000 and then 1500 for shine.

while i was gone away for the weekend my dad seen my tuniq on my table trying to help me out he removed it not knowing the heatpipes do NOT remove. So i had no choice but it did better then it was stock

Nice, pretty much what I would have done If a had the Tuniq! I thought you had lapped the pipes on the sides which I might do with the TRUE. Also I'll go with the others on this one: less TIM. Even though it spreads uot, there is still some where there wouldn't need be any. I've tested with it spread out already vs polka-dots and got 2-3C higher. Also consider putting some mini-heatsinks on that flat base! Especially after all you did, it would be a waste if you didn't go all the way! Also, did you put TIM on the brackets, como yo?

I don't understand something. The thermal compound on the heat pipes, what does that do?
The reason you use thermal compound is to fill in the microscopic voids between CPU and HSF. Lapping is good for flattening both and lapping to a good shine is even better because it reduces the voids therefore you should need even less thermal compound.
I also made a similar guide for reinstalling the TT. It shows how much TIM I use after many reinstalls.

The reason for putting the TIM between the pipes is because it primarily is a heat transference material. Therefore it sucks the heat out of the copper block and into the heat pipes. The heat is then transferred to the fins and is released into the air. In other words putting TIM between the heat pipes helps the heat pipes acquire more heat from the bottom copper block, therefore resulting in a cooler CPU. I hope that helps.

By the way OP nice mod, I will give this a shot I think.
