Thinking about putting a window in my side panel - Page 3

you definitely need a pilot bit, since it puncturs the steel first, ahead of the holesaw, then acts as a guide when the holesaw starts to cut. If not the holesaw will skate away from where youre trying to cut, not to mention theres no way to connect the holesaw to the drill without some pilot bit

also get a cheap NailSet (or center punch for metal), basically a metal pin that you put on your mark and tap with a hammer, to leave a tiny little dent where you are going to drill the pilot. This will help prevent the drill from "walking/skating" away from your mark as you start to drill. I learned this the hard way i have since bought a good automatic centerpunch from mcmaster-carr

Make sure you cut all four corner holes first. Remember to measure twice and cut once. You don't get second chances on these things. You might even condsider buying a cheap piece of metal to "practice on. If you get it exactly as you want it on the practice piece, use it as a template and do your final with the dremmel tool all around.

damn you really know how to earn your reps dont you? lol
I would try to be as helpful as I can regardless of any rep system, its just the way I am I try to "pay it forward" as someone somewhere helped me at some point with something, so since I may not be able to repay them specifically, I pay it forward to someone else - now youll do the same when you are ready, Ill be watching.

good luck

I cut my case with a dremel (only took about 8 cut-off wheels), cut the plexy with a straight-edge and a razor (score, score, score, break) and attached it with rivets. It looks bad-a. Also put an inward-facing fan in. the circular hole was the challenge. I used a template I drew from a standard curcular-compass and used one of the router bits to cut it. a simple fan cover concealed my small errors. pic if wanted
