I guess the only thing I'm worried about having screwed up on is the CPU and Mobo...they're compatible, right?

I would swap that cpu out for a Dual Core (X2 3800+) or something similar as they arent that much more, also i would up the HDD space abit, 80Gb is easily filled by todays apps, the rest looks fine though, although i would add another 1Gb of RAM depending on OS, what OS are you using btw?

XP...the PC she used before was ancient...I don't know specs, except that it had a 1GB hard drive. Yeah. REALLLY ancient. lol

So I think this should be fine...assuming it's compatible. I'm trying to keep the cost to a minumum - these specs alone should be huge overkill. She was talking about how her brother's P4 (2004 Dell) is "lightning fast" so I think she'll love this. lol

looks good. if you want as suggested a dual core proc would be nicer. a bigger HD isn't much more costly at all. And of course another gig of ram will give you a nice performance boost for very little cost.

$10 more will get you 2GB ram, 800mhz, dual channel with heatspreaders. everything else is good

EDIT: heres a way better mobo for $5 more ($50)

or, this one is $40

I'd spend an extra buck and get the Foxconn board instead of the Biostar. That Biostar only has a 46% rating. That's very low. Plus the Foxconn has a 10 dollar rebate so it ends up costing less

Go with the X2 4600+

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103064

Its a budget cpu. Even though its older, it will last for a long time yet.
