Help me to find a proper audiocard!

Thread Starter
Hello!
Im buying a new home cinema system: LG HT-902TBW . And it would be neat to hook up this system to my VISTA pc. Only problem is my current audiocard (Creative Xtreme Audio) which doesnt have any optical/coax outputs for surround sound or anything imo.
So I kind of need to upgrade my audiocard to get this cinema system to work properly. Yes?

I need help finding a card that:
a)would work with this Lg home cinema system (Remember that previously mentioned Vista!)
b)has a good overall sound quality
c)is under 300$ (Doest have to be the best one out there)

PS:The cinema system has an OPTICAL IN connector and a AUX AUDIO Input
(L/R) connector which is for stereo only, me thinks!

Thank you!

Auzentech prelude is what ure after a great sounding coaxial/digital in and out.

One of the best sound cards on the market

Also works great with vista 32/64 bit.

I've heard good things about the HT Omegas too. M-Audio makes good sound cards as well, but they are more for production than entertainment.

You want at least 96 khz sample rate and 24-bit audio.

Pretty much all of the sound cards post 2002 will do what you need it to do. Choices are numerous, here's a short list.

Auzentech - Prelude, X-Plosion, X-Meridian (discontinued)
Audiotrak - Prodigy 7.1
M-Audio - Revolution 5.1, Revolution 7.1
HT Omega - Claro, Claro+
Bluegears - b-Enspirer
Chaintech - AV710
Razer - Barracuda AC-1
Asus - Xonar D2, D2X, DX
ESI - Juli@
Onkyo - SE-90PCI, SE-150PCI, SE-200PCI
E-Mu - 0404 PCI, 1212M

Creative - Audigy 2 ZS, Audigy 4 (rebadged Audigy 2 ZS), X-Fi
Creative has some problems with their Vista drivers, a lot of the functions like DTS and DDL are not available under Vista, Daniel_K drivers might address this, but I'm not sure.

Depending on what you want to do with your HT system we can narrow the list down.

Ok lets narrow the list down..

1: Gaming is not the nr.1 thing. ( I do have most of the newest games and all but im not that intrested in fancy sound effects, EAX )
2: Movies need to sound good.
3: Music needs to sound good/very good.
I have been using few music production programs (Reason) for years now and better sound quality would rock!

Keep in mind that im not after the best one so a decent/good overall audiocard under 300$ would be perfect for my budget/needs...

Thanks!

Kinda depends on how much you do recording, since most cards optimized for playback (movies, music) doesn't have incredibly good line-in, while the better music production cards like the E-Mu 1212M doesn't support DTS and DDL for movies.

IMO, the best compromise would be the ESI Juli@, amazing playback quality and is good for studio usage as well. If you are more geared toward movies, the Auzentech Prelude will offer the most features and a very good sound quality, but if you do more sound production the 1212M should be the better card.

The best overall consumer-level sound card is the prelude followed closely by the Xonar.........
