I have some questions about the DS3L.

Hey guys. I have a couple of questions. I got the DS3L a while ago, its not the new version.

1: My northbridge heatsink seems loose, and its white rubber screws aren't all the way in. This happened with, I admit it, faulty handling. I can rotate it about a cm in either direction, and its no completely on the board. If its not on all the way could this screw up overclocking and whatnot? Also, can it be replaced with another heatsink? I know some boards can't.

2: What does Performance Enhance mean in the BIOS? I'm guessing it tightens memory timings? Thats all that I can logically think of.

3: I never updated my BIOS. I have stock BIOS. Should I look to flash the latest ones or just leave it be? Will it improve this board in any way?

you can check CPU-Z to see what bios version you got your board with. If its F5, then thats good enough. Its not worth the risk to flash a different bios.

Those white screws holding the northbridge h/s, aren't screws, they are push pins. So, your not going to get a really tight fit on the h/s. Thats why you can wiggle it alittle.

1. - You could start getting high NB temps which can cause instability and failure. You can get aftermarket coolers but why don't you try taking the heatsink off, clean the old TIM, reapply some good TIM and remount the heatsink properly.

2. - The Gigabyte Performance Enhance is really the MCH Read Delay (tRD) value, sometimes called the 'Static tREAD Value'. Not much info on it from Gigabyte but from what I've read:
STD = 11
Turbo = 6
Extreme = ??? (I haven't found this out yet)

3. - Your call entirely. Only if you want the new features / bug fixes that the new BIOS will give you I suppose. I did what most people say is the riskiest method of updating BIOS on mine (using the Gigabyte Windows GUI software) - it worked fine for me (but obviously not for everyone). Other options like floppy disk boot with DOS based BIOS update or using the Gigabyte in-built MB utility (I think called Q-Flash) are far less risky.

Good luck.
