...actually at the time, the only thing wrong with ME was that the consumers thought it wasn't a significant enough upgrade: just like how XP users see Vista.

Vista is still too focused on gaudy graphics and fancy additions for my taste.

Windows 7 (Windows 8?) appears to be more focused on funtionality, which I feel is a better move.

I was excited about Longhorn when MS said they'd introduce the WinFS filesystem. When they started putting the spotlight on Aero and announced they were dropping WinFS to "meet the deadline" I began suspecting that they were getting short-sighted and Vista was going in a different direction from what I was hoping it to be. They had better set their sights straight on Windows 7 this time, because I'm not buying a stopgap OS.

This may sound strange to some people but microsoft are repeating history. vista is like windows 95 of the 21st century. When they moved from DOS to 95's windows GUI visual interface system everybody thought wow its looks so much better and only the latest hardware willl run it ect. Then the next 5/6 OS all looked very similar (visualy with the excaption of XP). Its the same with vista windows 7/8/9/10 will all use a windows aero visual interface. Until the next big leap in desktop interface occours. (probably 3D projection or something).

paul's specific reason is because he's a windows fanboy. Ask him if there's a single flaw in vista. He'll shank you.
I prefer Windows because the software I use to make money is Windows only. Crazy isn't it.

Imagine if Microsoft put the same system requirements on computers that use their OS as Apple does. Computers would only be in 1/4 of homes that they currently are.
From Apple:

867MHz or faster G4, G5, or Intel CPU.
512MB of memory.

I would *love* to see Vista even install on that, let alone run at all.

Linux uses the great Unix Thead scheduler and it got the bash - that's it.

Good enough to run in my Virtual Machine since Win2000 (Last good posix Win was NT4)...
