I would *love* to see Vista even install on that, let alone run at all.
If you have a PC that slow you shouldn't need the features of Vista anyway. And you probably wouldn't be able to shell out the $100.

Great argument. No really, you could be the next Democrat nominee.

Except XP users are the nostalgic type that don't see progress when it wags in front of your face.

*sigh*

Just because it requires much more hardware resources doesn't make it more "advanced."

Once again, I will direct you to my Compiz-Fusion vs. aero example. Why can Linux run silky-smooth on a system with a quarter of aero's MINIMUM requirements?

I suppose Super Pi for windows is more "advanced" than the Linux version since the former would require better hardware to get the same time as the Linux version, right?

Greater hardware requirements != more advanced.

While vista isn't a "piece of crap" (that's not what I'm trying to say), there is much room for improvement. It's not as godly as some of you are making it out to be.

Disagree here, I haven't seen anything on Vista that merited upgrading from XP.

My friend just paid $2500 for a new rig with Home Premium on it and the system had a RAID-5 array of four drives, transferring data at a whopping 5.5MB/s, how the hell did that kind of issue even get past QA?

SP1 fixed that, but is there honestly something that requires Vista that can't be done with XP? Even most of the OC tools won't run on Vista. The only thing I like about it is the shinies and it's easy enough to hack those into XP.

That is the stupidest argument of you anti Vista boys.

What can XP do that 2000 can't?
What can ME do that 98 can't?
[there is something but can you name it ?]
and is it worth the change?

I'm sick of telling all the (little but much of them) improvements that make Vista better than XP, over and over again.

And the story of your friend is a joke.
No OS is making the HD read go down to 6 MB/s - there is another reason to it.
My (close to 2 years old Notebook) boots faster and feels way smother with Vista than with XP...

Besides the fact that XP comes with this ugly gaudy candy look...

Well I have been on Vacation and since I only got a laptop that my sister uses with Vista, I am getting to like it ALOT more than XP right now...people who still use XP should try someone else's computer and see how you like it. I was on the "VISTA IS CRAP GO XP BOAT" for long time now...but I just need a new system, single core and 1gb of ram does not cut the cheese when running vista.

And why must you vista fanboys attack every single person who asks such a simple question: what does vista have to offer that is significantly better than XP?

You're totally right. If there was still widespread support for both hardware and software on 2000, that's what I would choose.

Well ME can't do anything period... Except crash and BSOD. Let's leave that one aside.

Well I bet you can't give me a significant one. Is it going to raise my FPS? Is it going to improve my benchmarks?

I bet Digital Phreak has nothing to say about your "arrogant, arrogant, arrogant statements..." lol...

it does have slight fps improvements for high end systems.

That is always based on the viewpoint whether something is significant or not.
I like [just what comes to mind in a minute]:

- the Network centre
- Superfetch speeding up my app. starts
- the Design way more than XP
- the Image backup and complete recovery (Business, Enterprise, Ultimate only)
- the Mobile Sync Center
- DX10
- the fact it only crashed on hard OC testing
....

Maybe all thinks that wont make you buy Vista
If you want max fps, you may have to go XP and stripe it down (like tiny XP).
But than it got no more functionality than NT4.
