Help with 8800 gts oc

Thread Starter
I was testing the oc on my card.

I was leaving the GPU core and shader linked (I just read it is best to seperate the two)

I was getting the GPU core to 752(can't remember the shader off the top of my head) at 755 ati tool found errors fast.

My fans were left on auto, so should i set them to 80%+ ?

When I was testing memory I never got artifacts like I did with GPU / shader, instead it would just go black. Is this what to look for for memory clock speed?

for me, leaving fan on auto just leaves it at around 28%. You should probably set it manually. Put it the loudest you can tolerate for normal stuff, but you can put it at 100% for benchmarking.

my case is already loud (4 scythe slip streams) so I can tolerate 80% or more pretty easily, I'm just worried about the fans life at that point.

Thanks for the reply!

Is there a oc limit that i should know about for daily use?

Check my sig rig, Thats 24/7 and my fan is at 80%. I am still tinkering with it to try and get more.

Thanks triplesec!

I had my card with 811 gpu core at 80% fans but after looking at sigs I was afraid to run it at this speed. No artificats in ati tool for 10min.

Should I just push it to it's limit with 80% fan then back off one from the limit to give some breathing room? or maybe back off 2-3 ticks from the limit?

For 247 usage I usually find the highest possible overclock I can (I define stable by lasting 30mins in ATITool artifact scanner without ANY errors). Then I just back it down a little bit (20-50mhz) That should be fine for everyday use provided temps aren't too high.
