So I bought a couple 3870's...

So I bought 2 of the SAPPHIRE HD3870's on Newegg today. They only have single slot coolers on them, I was just wondering if you guys thought I should buy some after market coolers for them or will they be efficient enough. I have great air flow in my Antec 900 so I don't foresee any problems but just wanted to make sure Thanks

If ya have any problems, just crank up the fan speeds, with a 900 you should have no problems with cooling

I have heard that the coolers are not too bad. Someone posted that they got decent temps with the new cooler. I would install them in CF first and see how hot they run, then get better cooling if needed.

Generally I'd advise against getting a $40 cooler for a $140 card simply because I find for the price, the overclock you get on it won't justify it. But if they do run too hot by all means do (and get some good TIM as well).

my 3870 wasn't stable in the ati-tool artifact scan for more than 10 mins at stock fan speeds............................

but that's because they were set at like %30 maximum for default, lol.....but i used a bios editor--->changed the fan speeds a little---> now i'm fine.

i don't know if other brands share this fan speed fault, but it's something to think about'

To answer your question, they should be fine, these cards are pretty efficient, aftermarket heatsinks are only for high overclocks IMO

Off Topic: You pulled the trigger on a MB with that X38 beast? The poor 2600 is feeling pretty insignificant you know

I would look for someone replacing their dual slot cooler for aftermarket and get those for cheap. Ive got the dual slot cooler and its working great

There in CrossFire
I'm not coughing up till the 4xxx hit the market, the 2600s are good enough for now as is the 7900GT CO in on of the other rigs for what I use them for.
One of the 2600s will end up in an HTCP and the second is going in a charity build.

The 2 2600 were for playing with Crossfire and because I'm to lazy to bounce the 7900GT CO into the X38 for now
