E8400 OC - volts 'n temps

Got my brand new E8400, after fiddling w/ volts/FSB for a few days I was able to get to about 4.28GHz stable on 1.36V. I might be able to push it further but I'm gonna wait till the weekend to stare at Orthos screens all night again.

Too much? 1.36V seems safe (albeit skirting the upper bound) from what I've read. Also, Real temp reports 36C Idle, 46C Load. I'm skeptical, considering my E6600 had 22C/42C idle/load on more volts and a stronger relative OC. I've reseated several times with no change, so I'm thinking faulty/unreliable sensors (at least at idle).

That's a very impressive OC on that voltage. 1.36v load should be perfectly fine.

I'd guess your temps are reasonably accurate, well as accurate as they get at idle. On the other hand, Intel states that the idle temps may be unreliable, as the sensors are calibrated to be useful around the temps the CPu would shut itself down at.

With such a small die, and such high heat density, the heatspreader, and perhaps the thermal conductivity of copper, is probably becoming your limiting factor.

Cut the IHS off and get a silver waterblock.

mines 1.38 @ 445x9 and my temp sensors are completely dead. :]

<<< 4.2 here at 1.33 Vcore... Folding nearly 24/7 so its stable lol. My chipset needs some serious voltage.

Did you know the bios On average throws a 75% load on your cpu? My bios temps never crunch past 35c

My temp sensors are dead too. I have one of those mountable Probes that tell the temp between the HS and CPU...

But i dont know your guy's temps. Mine are on water.

I plan on getting one, and that really makes me nervous because im kinda a temperature fiend..

Mine are fine. Not sure why theirs died. But I don't push the vcore past 1.3625v so it's always worked well for me. 4.01GHz. I think the 45nm's are much more prone to problems if you shoot too much vcore into them. That's all. Good luck.

Overlooked that you were talking about idle temps before.

The sensors are known to to have drift at idle, reporting temps that are often too high or too low.

Load temps are all that matters anyway.
