Vendetta 2 clearance question - Page 2

I have both P35 and X38 boards here. One thing that clear is that the X38 creates much more concern for coolers and fit. This is because the biggest layout change to boards with these chipsets was moving the CPU socket significantly higher on the board (and closer to the PSU and edge). While this gets the North Bridge and thus, MCH closer to the RAM, it poses a problem for coolers. I shot some photos (very quickly, sorry about the quality). I hope these satisfy your concerns. Go ahead and get that Vendetta 2 -- your P35 shouldn't have any trouble.

Even with Corsair DHX RAM or a RAM fan you're fine. (But my OCZ XTC fan won't fit the ram, because the PCI-E slot is too close.

This looks tight, but it's actually not touching, just very close. I think this is a good setup, actually.

Sorry about the lighting here

You can see it's taller than my very wide North Bridge heatsink. Also pictured is the Redbeard-adflyer-voltage-regulator-cooling-mod.

Hope this helps!

Hm, the pictures give some perspective there. Thanks.
Although it looks like your NB is not as tall as mine is, and is farther away?? Not really sure, it looks like it.

I was looking into getting the 92mm version of the Vendetta.

One more thing...It looks like you have your setup pushing the air towards the exhaust fan there. Would it be better to have the fan pulling the air out?

Well I have that exact board with an Xigmatek S1283 it clears the motherboard by just barely maybe 2-3mm?

As you can see, the cooler is well above the north bridge.

In this picture you can see the height of the cooler at its base.

Here is a link to the specs page on my motherboard if you want to compare layout:

Both the PSU and the 90 mm fan (I may cut a 120 mm mouth in my case soon), are sucking the air and exhausting it out of the case. Thus, I have my Vendetta 2 pushing air towards those two fan. The only fan in my case that pulls air in is in very front. It's the multi-colored one. That air is very cool and blows straight onto the video card(s) and PhysX card.

Hope this helps!

Nice. From comparing pics on Newegg, it appears that the V2 has a little more clearance than the Xigmatek, if anything.

Yeah you're right the Xigmatek is a 120mm vs the OCZ 92mm.. I wonder If my cooler would fit on the GA-EX38-DS4.
