Zalman 9700

Got my Zalman 9700 today. I installed it with some AS5. Worked nicely. The stock fan was blegh.. The temps were like 40 idle. Now with Zalman and AS5, my temps are down to 25-30. Very nice. But the 9700 is kinda loud. I don't have a fan controller so I can't change its speed. but noise doesn't bother me that much. My old Apple G5 here has fans so loud you can hear them in the next room. So I've gotten used to it.

My CPU is Q6600@2.4Ghz. No OC yet lol.

Stock Fan:
Idle: 38˚C - 42˚C
100% Load: 58˚C - 65˚C

Zalman 9700 w/ AS5:
Idle: 25˚C - 30˚C
100% Load: 35˚C - 40˚C

I applied the AS5 as it told me in the instructions. A line with the thickness of a grain of rice. Works nicely.

I would recommend this fan to anyone. This was my first CPU fan installed and its pretty easy to install. A bit loud, but it you can regulate the fan speed with a fan controller. It has a 3 pin connecter so it doesn't go into the regular CPU fan slot. It works fine in a regular fan slot. Also, it has pretty blue lights.

It should have came with a fan controller, mine did. You could also plug it into your motherboard and control it there.

Yea. I saw it. But I wouldn't want to mess with it yet. As I said, I'm not really concerned with the noise. As long as my temps are under control, its all good for me.

It's a nice cooler. It is a pity that my case is too small to contain it.

The zalman 9500 is quite a bit smaller and does within 2C-3C of the 9700.

Also a couple dollars cheaper. I got my 9700 at around 53.99. Newegg was selling it and they were selling 9500 at 43.99.

I've got mine daisy chained to the 4 pin with my 2 120mm Intake fans. I'm running at 46-48C at Idle according to CPUID. Bios alwas says 10 Deg lower though. I'm wondering what the real temps are.
