alright I've been look around.. since I MIGHT get a new video card..
but what the heck is PCI-E 2.0 ???

I see alotta people commenting "oh im unfortunate one for havin A8n mobo and pci 2.0 doesnt work"

My mobo

Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe

will pci-e 2.0 cards work on mine ???

i've been lookin at this..

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150252

Tho I might go into something a lil more higher.. as my budget will allow me between 150-200...

tho first i wanna find out about this pci 2.0 thing

Oh and one more thing.. I have a NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GT 256MB DDR3 Extreme Edition...
you think the 8800GT will be a "BIG" noticeable upgrade.. or just ... eh ?

Your board is too old to have pci-e 2.0. Its basically just an update revision that as far as I have heard can't be fully utilized yet anyways. It will be the future but for now buy whatever card you want and go with that. They are completely compatible with each other, if you get one that is 2.0 in the future it might be able to use it better but it will work just fine on yours now. I think the 8800GT is great choice.

Has to do with Shader, the amount of data that can be shoved though. I know I am being totally untechnical but thats what I recall about it.

PCIe 2.0 is fully backward compatible with 1.1. I have never heard of a mobo that has PCIe 1.1 and was not able to use 2.0 cards. I wouldn't worry about it. There is no noticable performance gain anyways.

PCI-E 2.0 is supposed to double the bandwidth aka the amount of data that can be moved through the interface. PCI-E 1.1 isn't really being stressed at this point so it's simply a money grab for the time being.

If I remember correctly there was a test done to see what the advantage was and I think it only yielded a 4% increase.

As Dralb said, you shouldn't have any problems running a PCI-E 2.0 capable card in a PCI-E 1.1 board due to backwards compatibility.

I'm excited to see if ATI and nVidia's newest offerings can give 1.1 a run for it's money.

you can still use 2.0 in a regular PCIe x16 slot

Right now 2.0 is just a sales gimmick anyway.

Nothing, we hardly use full 1.4 bandwidth.
