I have gone security insane!!! - Page 2

This also happened to me but in my case it was a friend. Lets just say that my friends were too drunk to drive home so they slept over. I don't know how people can be so dumb when it comes to clicking random stuff. I ended up crashing out in the living room and they must have stayed up a while longer. After I woke up with a mild hangover I headed to my pc and it was still on. I didn't mind until I moved the mouse and then noticed an icon in the taskbar. Yea, they somehow managed to download a fake anti-virus and the background was blank. The homepage to firefox was some random Run Anti-virus Now site which made me 'LOL'.

I rebooted and went into safe mode. Used Spybot Search&Destroy, AVG, CCLeaner, and finally Advanced WindowsCare V2 Pro to get rid of all the crap they got on my computer. I blame myspace.. THANKS A LOT TOM.

I don't think they are the same...Just look similar. IIRC Bitdefender uses Kaspersky database. It has a few false positives now and then but its saved me from countless web-bourne viruses that try to download in the background. I find that I very rarely have to do a scan as on-access seems to find everything first.

Well I'm back on FF again for good. Safari started crashing too much. What is noscript?

Yea, false positives annoy me. Reminds me of the evil mcafee and such.

I have Zonealarm Suite in XP and had it in Vista till I went 64bit and Zonealarm doen't have the 64bit version. So I went with AVG. Never had a problem with Zone alarm and AVG.

Nod32 is a fantastic anti-virus!
Also, prohibiting children and incompetents from using your computer is also great protection!

AVG is good as well nod32 and try noscript like liability suggested great addon!

noscript:
Allows JavaScript, Java and other executable content to run only from sites you choose.

get it here

noscript can get a little annoying sometimes but i think it helps quite a bit
