Overclocked now computer locks up at startup, help!

Hey all,

I recently tried overclocking an old processor, AMD athlon 64 3000+ at 1.8Ghz to about 2.0Ghz in the bios settings. When i restarted my comp. it loads up to a screen saying "Platinum" and at the botton says press "del to enter BIOS" and "tab to switch to POST." But it locks on this screen and pressing tab or del will not work. Its an MSI mobo and has a red button to rest the bios but it will not work. it simply loads back to this screen when i turn on the PC and stays on this screen. Anyone have any ideas.
the system is an:
AMD athlon 64 3000+ 1.8Ghz
MSI mobo (Sorry not sure what model)
2GB Ram
eVGA nVidia 6600

Thanks

uh, try to reboot a few more times? sometimes when they lcok up on boot it takes a while to get it to recognize the keyboard input. at least on some of my boxes, it's kinda hit or miss.

If u want to reset the bios then power off the system, take the power cable off the power supply, wait 10-15 secs. Then take out the bios battery then use the reset jumper to reset everything.
Did you say reset switch. There must be a reset jumper somewhere near the battery.
Good luck.

well, to some avail i got it pass that platinum screen by pressing "tab" repeatedly and it comes up to the black energystar screen but now locks at this screen. i try entering the bios by pressing delete but to no avail. oh and instead of a jumper there is a small red button on the mobo itself. im not sure if there is supposed to be a jumper as well.

that button is most likely a power on or reset button used for troubleshooting. As was mentioned above, disconnect your power cables, use the jumper, clear the cmos, then remove the battery and wait for a bout 2-3 min and then put the battery back in then connect the cables and try again. That should have gotten rid of any mis-configuration you may have done.
