q6600 fails occt everytime and super hot after wc

Thread Starter
I just installed a watercooling system from petras tech and it works very well in the 1.3v range idling at about 40c but as soon i start bumping voltages i get super hot temps. i can't maintain a 3.4 oc on occt because it gets too hot (running vcore at 1.45 with this oc). Is this normal? It doesn't seem right that i would have to up .15 volts to maintain an extra 200 mhz does it? i'm stable with 1.3 at 3.2 but anything higher crashes occt or my pc. i'm baffled

What kit did you get? Sounds like a bad block mount to me though.

What temps are you getting? 40C idle is not out of the norm

Yea we need more info. What components are you using? What temps are you getting? What are you using to measure those temps?

swiftech apogee gt with dtek fuzion pump and blackice II radiator with 2 120mm fans.. super hot as in 1.45v will make occt stop because temps are too hot. i'm measureing with core temp and occt. 1.45v makes me idle at 50c.... that's what i mean by superhot. at 1.35v i idle at 39c. if i go load on 1.45v i get upwards of 68c-70c. This can't be normal.

That has got to be a bad mount, those temps are way above normal. I would try reseating and make sure to use the right amount of TIM, just a rice grain size in the middle.

Lapping would help some but I don't think that's your biggest problem. How much TIM do you put on?

not very much at all.. i have had to reapply paste alot of times with this thing and i've pretty much got it down to a science. i just drop a little dab in the middle then seat the cpu in the board then put my block on.
