Installing CPU, new build

Thread Starter
This is my first build, and in installing my ATX_12V 4 pin connector I think I reversed the pins and grounded the 12V from the PSU. My computer started slightly smoking from the place it was connected, so I immediately turned it off. Now, as I try to remove the connector it appears stuck, so I am wondering if it is possible the PSU connector fused to the motherboard. Any thoughts about what I should do, Im not sure if I should pull harder on connector, because Im afraid of dislodging the connector on my motherboard.

Also in attempting to dislodge the cable I removed the heatsink on my CPU which I just installed in order to get it out of the way. Im wondering if now I have to go and buy thermal paste if I want to reinstall my heatsink properly, or if since my CPU was never powered up I can just reinstall with the thermal pad that came with the Arctic Cooler 7.

Sorry about the noobish questions.

check out this link, around the middle of the page, where the picture is.

In other words, you didn't *necessarily* plug it in the wrong way... those things are keyed so I think it's pretty unlikely you plugged it in backwards.

You should be able to RMA the board, but you'll want to test that that PSU is working fine.
