Cheap Age of Conan Build

Thread Starter
A few of my guild mates wanted to know about a good cheap AoC build so I figured I'd put my newfound overclock.net knowledge to work. Thought I'd post what I told them here just to see what ya'll think.

------------------------------------
Video Card: 8800gts 320mb g80: 88 dollars shipped
(wish this deal was there 2 weeks ago! I bought a crappy 8600gt for about the same price!)

RAM: g.skill 4 gigs DDR2 1000: 84.99
(2 DIMMS, leaving room for 4 more gigs later)

Mobo: DFI BloodIron: 114.99
(God I love this mobo, overclocks very well and is very stable) There's also an open box Gigabyte D3SL at newegg for about 80 bucks but I don't recommend open box unless you know what you're doing.

Proc:
Intel e2180 Dual Core: 69.99
(Mine overclocked from 2.0 to 3.56 stable! You can easily get to 3.2 with little knowhow. Requires an aftermarket cooler, you can still get to 3.0 without an aftermarket cooler)

Cooler: Xigmatek Cooler: 36.99
(The model for the OCZ Vendetta 2, best direct-pipe cooler on the market... and only 36 bucks!)

Thermal Paste (for cooler): Arctic Silver 5: 5.99
(best stuff out there)

Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 32 MB Cache 500 gig: 89.99
(faster than the old raptors, big, I love mine... can get a 750 version for 119... don't forget to take the jumper off, it comes with a jumper that limits it from SATA 1.5 to SATA 3.0)

Case: First of all if you live near a best buy you can buy a full tower rocketfish case for 120 bucks max (some have reported seeing them for less than 80 bucks). Otherwise the cooler master is good bang for your buck CM690: 84.99 You can use a normal case as long as it's not a dell minitower or some ****, cause the 8800 and other good video cards are too long for the case, and the xigmatex is often too tall.

Power Supply: you'll need a good one for the 8800 or any decent card. I bought an x2 ultra 550w off of someone, which is the bare minimum for SLI and good for normal crossfire (newer ATI cards use less power). However I don't have a mobo that could handle that.... but could still buy a 3870 or 4870 x2 at some point and power it up with the 2 6-pin connectors and enough power on the rail (you really need 1 6 and 1 8 pin connector for "overdrive" but you don't want to use overdrive to overclock so it doesn't matter).

Here's a PSU or 2 I'd recommend based off of other people's reviews, you don't even need the power they put out but they're on a great sale: http://www.buy.com/prod/corsair-tx-650w-at.../206178324.html or http://www.buy.com/prod/corsair-tx-750w-at.../206178325.html

650w @ 77 bucks, 750w @ 97

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you have a decent PSU and a tower with a few fans on it, your end price is 491... add in about 8 bucks shipping from newegg cause of all the shipping combos and deals, you have a 499 buck comp with a really fast dual core, 4 gigs of fast RAM, a very fast and large hard drive, a dependable mobo, and a card that will handle Age of Conan on high settings at a decent framerate.

Lets say you have nothing except a monitor and a mouse and a keyboard, add in the cooling tower and good PSU: 653.... add in 22 bucks shipping for the tower and maybe 10 bucks for the PSU and other shipping, $675

If you have a crappy Dell (or whatever) 305w PSU that has at least 22amps on the 12v rail and really can't afford anything better then go for the 8600 (your friend) listed, it'll do you alright... or find a decent 3850, they use low power and run better than the 8600.... cost a little more tho.

Also, although their is nothing wrong with AS5, OCZ Freeze performs slightly better.

I know this is a week old, but since it's been bumped I thought I'd add that this card is a great deal if you haven't already bought the 8800GTS 320MB.
