To date I have only ever played the demo for Crysis - it was okay. It wasn't as much fun as CoD4 and had much steeper system requirements. It was pretty, and the guys at Crytek made the mistake of thinking that to be enough... oops.

However to compare PC gaming to consoles by using Crysis and Halo3 as your talking points is fundamentally flawed. In one corner you have a guaranteed hit with Halo3 and built in fanbase of epic proportions versus a brand new franchise that may or may not hit pay dirt. Halo3 took established gameplay and made it a little prettier. Crysis took a pretty graphics engine and mated it to less popular gameplay(Farcry) - in the end the suit just wasn't enough to differentiate the game from the first Crytek offering. Then you throw in the system requirements to run the game in high settings and you have a recipe for low sales numbers.

And from the article you posted:

I bought Orange Box, CoD4 and Bioshock. Crysis wasn't even worth pirating in my household, for any of us. I don't own a 360 or PS3. The last PC game I bought was Assassin's Creed.

referring to my bolded bit...im sorry but i cant see how you can justify your response that Crysis was not a good game or worth purchasing, or fun or whatever, from ONLY playing the demo? wheres the sense in that? you're obviously basing your opinion off of everyone elses without giving yourself the chance to form your own. dont make judgements and conclusions based on a demo.

personally, Crysis' SP experience walked all over COD4's. hell, i dont even consider COD4 a single player game..given it took a whole, 5 hours to complete? (not including that friggin Ferris Wheel stage lol). as binormalkilla said, COD4's MP walked all over Crysis.

sorry, but your entire post seems 'fundamentally flawed'. you're basically standing strong against a game you've never even played. and you're pretty much just basing your opinion on what everyone else has said, its not even your own really.

i agree, console titles such as Halo3 should never be compared to PC titles, like Crysis, given that Halo already has such a large fan base. but actually play the game first ay. the actual game. you obviously dont know, having not owned the retail version, the retail copy of Crysis not only runs much better than the demo, especially with the help of the Natural Mod, but actually contains more than just the first level, as retail editions do

UT3 came out at like the WORST possible time, about a week after COD4 and Crysis. I'm not at all sure what marketing was thinking there, but they committed suicide. It flew completely under the radar. A lot of gamers can't afford more than 1 game a month. COD4 got the most people, because it was a really great game, and it came out first. By the time people were done with cod 4, Crysis was top dog and UT3 was languishing.

Also, deathmatching is really in decline compared to tactical games like CS or COD. No one really wants to play a game where the enemy can take 6 direct rockets to the face anymore.

Valve are the one developer who I feel are really going to keep PC gaming up there. They are offering games at good prices, easily, and fast.

Why torrent something like the Orange Box when you can get it without the hassle for £20? It's brilliant. It's worth the money, and people are going to pay it so they can play TF2 online without any problems.

Steam is a brilliant system that works really well, just look at Package Managers in Linux to proove the format is brilliant.

I don't like Steam I brought this game Half Life Plantium Edition along time ago but I can't sell it. So for steam their should be a way to put key on another account if the original owner wants to.

And thats why things called graphics cards were invented.

Your point makes no sense into relation to why intel caused this. If your trying to say its because they have crappy integrated graphics, at least they tried. AMD didnt even bother so surely they would be to blame more?

@ gtarmanrob
A game demo is SUPPOSED to get you interested in a game. Fine, he played the demo, and it didn't appeal to him. I have made my choice for games based on demos. If the demo can't perform, I sure as heck ain't buying it.

And seriously? The ONLY problem with CoD4's SP WAS the length. You felt for the characters, it was fun, it was well put together, w/e. It was awesome! Crysis had an overused, cliche story with bad voice acting. It was pretty, NOTHING more.

QFT.

TBH though, i think the Wii is the only true console (as, in my view, all consoles should be for casual gaming. the ones from Sony/MS are more serious.)
