GPU OC Stability Testing

In the past I have always used ATITool and it's worked flawlessly. However, since moving to Vista I find things a bit different. I can use ATITool for an hour (I know it needs longer for "true" stability) and it won't show any errors or visual artifacts at 715/2000. However, if I play a game like Guitar Hero III or even Rise of Nations, I get a bunch of "driver stopped responding" messages until I back my OC down to 690/1980. I'm pretty sure it's not actually driver related since It'd done the same thing with 174.74 and 175.16.

That leads me to believe the OC just isn't stable, but shouldn't the artifact testing be more rigorous than games that can run on substantially lower-spec computers? Is there a better tool for testing GPU stability?

i have experienced the same thing.

ive moved on to THIS. But i am not sure it is 100% what you are looking for. it seems to be more stressing when running multiple instances than does ati tool alone, vie also tried a few instances of RTHDRIBL alongside ati tool. wich is how i discovered how to get my gpu at a stable voltage for 945mhz. currently im finding the only game to be unstable at all now is the STALKER:clear skies E3 demo engine, and only at its max settings @ 1280x1024. while using atitool only for stressing, even HL2 was unstable.

ATiTool is a great ROP stress test, but it cannot stress shaders or memory very well.

3DMark 2003 (yes 2003) is one of the best memory stress tests you can get. Fork over 10 bucks for the registered version and loop the Battle of Proxycon and Troll's Lair test.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R is the most shader heavy game I've ever used, and will artifact or crap out pretty quickly if the shader speed is up too high.

Running other tests along side ATiTool, as Xinoxide suggests, is also a good idea.
