I would like to see a high end UMPC like this:

Sadly, that will only come when either apple does it, or companies look past the "benefits" of using windows and to the potential of what it could really be (custom tailored software = win). I know i would buy one of those laptops you show.. i mean holy crap dude

Very nice products, I will probably end up picking up a nice Macbook Pro down the road. You really can't find a nice looking laptop like that (ok, I do have a soft spot for IBM's line, so its a toss up.)

i was working with a tablet pc today, and i was thinking how nice it would be if it had the iphone's features, like the one that senses which ay is up and rotates the display to be upright. that would be pretty cool.

Most high end tablets have that. The highest end being the Thinkpad X61s, The Thinkpad Tablets have had that for years.

Adobe has a pretty cushy relationship with Apple. If and when Apple releases a tablet the next version of Photoshop will be something to watch for.

I'd also love to see what they do with the interface on a mac tablet - it's been a while since the traditional desktop has had a major advancement

You know that pic where the kid is holding the thing as though it were a book? That's the saddest thing that I've seen today.

What can I say, I like real pages.

vs

The pictured laptop is the upcoming XO2 from OLPC. The target consumers would have limited access to things the internet could dig up in seconds

I'm with you Jarhead. Toilet reading material FTW!

Edited to add; I think reading and searching on a computer leads to a lower IQ for society. When you look in books, you run across stuff not important to what you are looking for now, but which may be important later.

so because its between an iphone and a macbook it has to be priced in between?

people pay a premium for technology. try looking at around 2g.
