E8400 or Q6600

Thread Starter
So I am planning to buy a new rig since my old sucks ****. I was going through newegg and was planning on getting the Q6600 but I came upon the E8400. I heard both are great and that the E8400 performs better, but Q6600 will perform better in the future. I was wondering which one I should get E8400 for 194$ or Q6600 for 219$.
I was also looking through a set a of motherboards something can OC well it doesn't have to be SLI. Can someone recommand a mother board 50$ - 150$ that will perform well with my XFX 8800 GTS G92.
Thanks
New Rig

I picked the E8400 because it does OC higher and since current games don't support quads.

I like the board I picked in my sig, took me a bit to get use to the bios but was my first oc

For gaming and everyday use, get the E8400. If you plan on folding, or anything else that will utilize a quad, get the Q6600. You can't go wrong with either chip. As for a board recommendation, I would suggest the Gigabyte EP35-DS3L. As long as you aren't going sli or running raid, this board is great.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128059

It came down to the gigabyte and the dfi for me. Both seem to be really good boards. Main reason I finally picked the dfi was I heard the NB overheats on the gigabyte.

Most games just use two threads.

E8400 + DK P35 or IP35 Pro, unless you do editing or decoding. I would get a Q6700 now but my E6750 can perform what I need to do flawlessly, which is basically internet tasks, gaming, music, and video viewing.

go for the Q6600 / Q 6700. Though the e8400 does sound tempting!
