[Bittech] Starcraft 2's system specs leaked? - Page 2

They should just say something along the lines of:

Minimum--

SSE2
Shader model 2.0
DX8

Recommended--

SSE3/SSE4 support
shader model 4.0 support
DX10 support

Then let the people figure out what hardware it supports... Obviously when they say 8000 nvidia cards, that could mean anything from a 8400GS to a 8800GTX. quite the huge gap, but same tech support mentioned above...

And take the general common sense fact that the more money you spend on your hardware, the better games will run. Considering you know how to pick out hardware...

They could even go as far as saying something like:

If your computer is less than 4 years old, and supports DX9 you shouldn't have any issues playing the game at mid range settings...

If you have a new PC with DX10 support, from within the last 6 months you should be able to run the game at almost max settings...

So many ways to explain it... they pick the most retarded way of letting people know what will work and what wont...

---

The game looks exciting!! i bet the moment it goes gold, theres going to be some torrent leak via Koren trackers...

Umm...Joe Bloe won't have a clue what SSE2 is. If you give him names of hardware that will run it, he can be like "O, my comp has this and that, I can run this!" but if he sees "SSE2 and SSE3 required""Shader 3.0 required!" He'll be like "*** is that ****? Nevermind, not buying"

Ah yes in a time of badly coded DX10 games I can well imagine where people pull these outlandish specs from.

StarCraft 2 will run on a 2Ghz Pentiuim with 512MB and Intel 945 Graphics card with 8MB of VRAM. Blizzard is not stupid, they want as many people as possible to run this.

not so hard to figure out what cpuz/gpuz does...

Why do people bicker about how to dumb down communication?? Wouldn't it make more sense to educate people? regardless if they want to or not, people who have computers and plan on doing anything with them other than emails and pr0n, should be forced to learn what the hell is going on...

I can't cope with stupid people. I do see the difference between not being educated in some aspect, and true stupidity... I deal with truly stupid people everyday and i can feel there stupidity rubbing off on me. I went to starbucks after working one day, and totally forgot how to order a mocha... sounds stupid right?? It takes so much more brain power to deal with utter stupidity over telling a person what is really going on... But again, there are those who will never get it. These same people are the ones that define what is printed on boxes of todays merchandise...

How many people do you really know who actually needs to be told that you shouldn't put your toddler in a 5 gallon bucket full of water?? yet what is printed on every damn bucket?? Probably because of one truly stupid person...

These "lowest common denominator" people cripple society... it's sickening...

Hence the retarded approach to not so ambiguous hardware descriptions for PC games...

Still leaves a lot of people going "huh?"

No matter how it's done theres always going to be people who just don't get it. When the game suggests that a 8000 nvidia card would be recommended, how many people with 8400GS cards are going to moan and groan about there game play sucking hard core...???

It's utter BS.
Why would it matter

A 3Ghz X2 is going to play the game fine. It doesn't need to 'match' a C2D just to get playable frame rates.

And they didn't say it would need to match a C2D. You are looking to deep into it.

If it says '3GHz Core 2 Duo', a 3GHz Athlon X2 is not going to give the same performance, nor will a 3.2GHz X2 which is the highest clocked X2 you can buy. If you need a 3GHz Core 2 Duo for optimum enjoyment, an X2 is not going to give that same experience.

I didn't say anything about 'playable framerates'. This was not the 'minimum' or 'recommended' specification, it was the 'optimum' specification.

Which means, those specifications are useless and made-up.

Of course it is. are you seriously telling me a 3Ghz X2 is not going to be enough to run this game?

Yes i agree, it doesn't match up to the performance of a Core 2 Duo. But it is still capable of gaming. Most Core 2's aren't even 3Ghz, are you telling me they won't run this game? Are you seriously saying that a 2.66Ghz E6700 will not run this game at optimum settings?

All i am saying is, a dual core will be sufficient. They just put 3ghz so people will buy the damn things. I can honestly say a 3Ghz Athlon X2 will be more than enough juice for this puppy.

I hope you understand what i meant in that little ramble of words

EDIT: Yes you are right, it will not gave the same in game performance. It will achieve about 2 FPS less. But i would not say that it will make the game un-playable. CPU's are a very slack factor in todays games as most of them are more than enough. It is the GPU's they need to be clarifying.

QFT. Integrated graphics and a many years old processor. I imagine it might be a little more demanding than WoW, but nothing revolutionary.

"This is BS. World of Warcraft could run on a $500 laptop when the game was released in 2006 (or was it 2005?). I think that Blizard wants AS MANY people as possible to be able to play this game."

"Considering many people don't keep up with technology and maybe upgrade once every 3 years to something mid-range these system requirments would not be a very smart buisness decision."

"If you ask me I think these are what you will actually need."

Quote:
MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIRMENTS:

Pentium 4 2.4GHZ, AMD 2400+ CPU
512MB RAM
64MB Video Card with T&L support
Quote:
RECCOMENDED SYSTEM REQUIRMENTS:

Dual-Core CPU (Pentium D, or X2)
1GB RAM (XP) 1.5GB (Vista)
256MB Video Card (6800, x850 or above)
"I'll keep an eye on this post to see if I am right when they release the real specs."

I'm not saying it's not enough to run the game. I'm saying they won't run the same, everyone knows this and it's one drop in the glass of proof that these specs are baseless rumors.

Besides, what would you know about how SCII utilizes the CPU - it's a strategy game, it might make good use of it.

I tend to agree; but note that it's pretty much been confirmed (by a Blizzard employee) that these StarCraft II specs in question have been fabricated.

It would be rather silly for a PC game producer to give an entire series of GFX cards (such as the "NV 8000 series or ATI 2000 series") as the "requirements" or "recommendations". It's obviously much too vague. It does seem to me that most recent games give a "recommended" or "required" actual GFX model. (Like "nVidia 6600GT or ATI 9700 Pro").

Even still, a lot of people simply don't know enough about graphics cards to make the appropriate performance determinations...... BUT.....

I think we agree that, nowadays, people have little room to complain when the information about GFX cards and their subsequent performance in a game is often readily available on the internet. Take the time to do the research or ask questions. Otherwise, don't come whining when Crysis looks like a slide show on your 8500GT 'gaming machine'.
