I used that before, but it didn't play all the different codecs back then (read prolly more then a few years ago ). I'll give it another try this weekend

Agreed +1, and the name "Media Player Classic" shouldn't let anyone stop them from downloading

You could also try KMPlayer, it has a lot of options and might look really nice if you figure out how to configure it properly

Media Player Classic Homecinema... it supports DXVA (GPU decoding acceleration) and the new video renderers that come with Vista.

If you have an NVIDIA card, use it with Haali's Video Renderer. Once you have it enabled, go to Filters -> Haali's Video Renderer and pick 16-235 levels. The NVIDIA drivers mess up video rendering, making it look brighter than usual and hazy.

Haali's Video Renderer bypasses it and upgrades it to a status of win (also... the renderer works on the GPU shaders)
