Freezing while playing COD4

Thread Starter
Hi all,

I have a rather annoying problem. Everytime I play COD4 every now and then the my PC will just freeze and I will have to restart the PC manually to get it to run normal again.

My rig is OCd but i have tested its stability by with Prime95 and Orthos for at least 8 hours. All I can think the cause is the drivers? I am not sure what or why its doing it I am on 175.16 atm.

Any ideas on how to fix the freezing issue will be much appreciated

cheers,
Nvidia Machine

Mine does the same when running ATiTool or rivatuner, if you have either running, try playing the game with those programs closed, good luck

Really? Damn Yea I do have Rivatuner tuner on well it comes on automatically and sets my GTX fans to 100%. So you reckon its that? If you used rivatuner for the same purpose do how do you get around it now? Thanks for the reply btw

I have the same problem. But no the all time. Just sometimes my cod4 freeze. I have always close AtiTool when i play. I just set speeds and turn off. When i play with non overclocked graphic card it's ok. But in other game with overclocked graphic (72*C) it's okay. Just cod4 freeze. It's funny, because screen freeze, but i hear normal noises fot example how somebody called airstrike.

I'm starting to think it's the drivers, considering so many people are having this problem, most if not all having Nvidia cards.

Revert back the the late 169s? Maybe early 174s?

OH MY GOSH this happens to me too and it annoys the heck out of me... the other day I had a 20 kill spree (my record is 21) and it froze and then I died. I almost went angry german kid on my pc...

anyway I am noticing you are using a 9800 GTX as well as I. I JUST upgraded to the 9800 GTX... when i was using my 8800 GTX the freezing never happened. I don't use rivatuner or anything.... and my vid card is at stock. Also it has happened in campaign for me as well... man it makes me MAD when it happens

I notice if I minimize the COD4 window and then restore it the problem fixes itself, but still it will sometimes freeze again a few seconds later. It seems to come in bursts.....

It'll happen whenever the game starts to stress the GPU for example; If you've been playing for a while it shouldn't happen, but if you've been playing for a while, then alt tab out, and then come back in, it'll probably happen right after you come back in. It also seems to mostly happen when you first join a game.

It has to be the drivers, since I know this didn't happen to all of us before.
