m2n32-sli deluxe AMD x2 4200+, help with HTT

Hey guys,

I'm new here and too overclocking.

After looking around this site and others I felt like I knew enough to proceed, however I'm having trouble.

What I have:
ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe Wireless Edition AM2 NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Windsor 2.2GHz Socket AM2 89W Dual-Core
G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ
Rosewill RP550-2 ATX12V v2.01 550W Power Supply

The problem I have is I cant get my Reference clock over 246. At 245 it will post and boot xp and run orthos for 2 mins with out error's but if I move the clock 1 mhz higher it fails to post. Here is where it gets really interesting, when I'm at 245 clock and cpu 5x I get cpu speed of 1225. I know that is what it should be but when I go to 146 clock with 5x multiplier it shows the cpu speed at around 2.7ghz. So to test it out i put my clock speed to 300 and saved the bios, after it failed to post i opened the bios back up and checked the cpu speed and it said it was 3.4 ghz??????? Even though the multiplier was still 5x??? I know the setting's didn't take effect but why is the bios calculating the cpu speed with a different multiplier then the one set?I know many other people have taken this bored to 350 easily. I followed this guide:
http://www.overclock.net/amd-general...ocket-am2.html
and I can't fidgure out what is wrong. I have tried many different bios versions.

If any one has any suggestions please feel free to post.

Thanks,
Shady

After resting the cmos jumpers i got to 265 stable but at 270 it either fails orthos or reboots during the test. I have tried putting the chipset voltage a tad higher but it didn't help. Does any one have suggestions on raising the reference clock higher?

Set the HTT to 4x. Keep in mind that these processors top out at around 2.75-2.9. I couldn't get mine to 3.0ghz no matter what I tried.

I have this same problem with my M2N32-SLI Premium. Its an issue with the board. I called asus about it and they basically told me to f-off because they dont suport overclocking. My board however lets me go to around 270, so im assuming its not the board thats causing it, its the cpu that freaks out and the board recognizes instability and tries to stop the OC for some reason. Thats the only thing I can think of. Only suggestion if you dont like it, either get a faster chip or go intel :s

what bios are you using?
what is the cpu volts?
go here http://www.amdgeeks.net/overclockdatabase
plugg in your cpu info from cpu-z to find what others have the cpu at. it also gives you insight on how their systems are set up aswell

I already did that, and when that didn't work I went to 3x which was too low.

Well I gave up on maxing the reference clock so I went to the next part of the guide which is the cpu. Their I can't even get my cpu stable in orthos at 240X11=2640mhz. I haven't tried uping the voltage yet from 1.35 So I'll see how much I have to raise the voltage to stabilize it.

if its a windsor, to go from 2.2 to 2.6 will need a voltage bump. My 400mhz overclock sits me at 1.425v or something. It didnt take a massive increase, but enough. Heat didnt go up too much either. I was impressed.
