vista x86 vs vista x64

Thread Starter
I just installed vista x64 on my new build, and I was wondering how much difference there is in performance in comparison to vista x86. I have 4 gigs of ram, so am I correct in believing that vista x86 will only see 3.25 gigs or some such? I am asking this because I am having some driver incompatibility issues with some of my hardware (printers, usb network adapters), and I am wondering how much performance would suffer from switching to vista x86. Any thoughts, comments, and advice would be really helpful.

With 4GB, I don't think it will be such a big deal to downgrade to 32-bit if you have to. Yes, your RAM will decrease to 3.something, but I guess that's better than a computer that doesn't work properly. I'm not sure how much difference there is in CPU performance, but it's not that much, so you won't notice a difference there.

64-bit isn't as buggy as people claim it to be. Go with 64-Bit if you can swing it because you'll eventually have to upgrade to a 64-bit OS so why not just do it now instead of paying that much extra for it when you do need to upgrade from 32-bit.

i am currently using Vista 64 and it surprisingly works very well. i second that it runs better then 32 bit because of better memory management and im booting using multi cores so everything feels snappy.

First off they are both x86. The x64 and x32 refer to x86-64 or x86-32.

Second, go with x64, you won't regret it.
