need an air cooler for a OC'ed mid ATX

I am building a sytem..and I want to OC...

I will have a E8400 Wolfdale.

I will have a raidmax smilodon black extreme case. (it is an ATX mid case)

I need a cooling solution that will fit in the case and not interfere with the side fan. Will a thermaltake Big Typhoon be too big??

Does any one have any reccomendations for coolers that are smaller but still are able to keep the cpu temps low when overclocked??

The E8400 is a 45nm chip and is more restricted by voltage (going too high will fry the chip) than heat (they're rather efficient and don't produce much heat)

The Big Typhoon will do the job, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you already have one lying around (they're too expensive for the performance and blow downwards, disrupting normal front to back airflow)... I would personally recommend a tower type heatsink if you're buying one new... The Xigmatek 120mm HDT cooler, Vendetta 2, or Tuniq Tower are all good coolers that beat out the Big Typhoon, will fit in your mid ATX case, and are only in the $30-40 price range

I agree with killa, vendetta 2 is a great cost effective choice.

ummm....i was waiting for a reply and already ordered all the components for my system from newegg about 2 hours ago. I got the gig typhoon. The problem with the other collers i saw is that my north bridge cooler on my mobo is way to highg for the tower coolers. The big typhoon looked like it would elevate above the heatsink.

Awww you should have posted that little tidbit in your original post... My secondary system is a Blood Iron (with the same sort of NB cooler) and the Tuniq clears it just fine in vertical and horizontal mountings (though the fan does touch the top of the northbridge cooler when mounted vertically)

Judging from the pictures, it looks like the Xigmatek HDT and OCZ Vendetta 2 have the same amount of clearance
