Switched from AMD and kinda dissapointed - Page 7

@ OP--you made the right decision. I'm sorry that your attempted upgrade didn't blow your socks off. My move to intel did--simply due to what I was coming from (a practically non-overclockable S939 4400+ X2 to an easily overclockable 2180). But if you were able to heavily overclock your AM2, and you don't do much video encoding, then yes, I agree with you--the move to intel probably wasn't worth it at all. I concur with similar sentiments--from the performance increases you were hoping to see by going to the E8400, you should go with a RAID0 configuration--application and game load times will be significantly decreased, and that will give your system a whole new feel, and probably much more satisfaction than the E8400 did.

I just hope you didn't have to pay too much for restocking fees for returning the CPU/Mobo...

On-topic: You need to quit whining until you overclock it to at LEAST 3.5 ghz. And why are you spending $500 on a CPU+MOBO for games? It's fairly common knowledge that amd dual cores are *enough* for games, so why not get another GPU?

It seems as if you were expecting to have a huge leap in everything. Your HDD can only load your windows so fast you know....

EDIT:

Apps? Umm, No... unless your talking about how fast they start up

games yes

Their is a MASSIVE difference. Check any of the hundreds of tom's hardware links to CPU comparison charts and you'll find that their really is a point to spending the extra cash.Don't flame people because YOU can't afford to spend the extra $$ on upgrades. If your content with what you have then FINE, enjoy it.

BUT DO NOT patronize people for upgrading
im not begging to be flamed? if you can justify paying $500 more for an INTEL system for this guy then show HIM ..I dont see that happening tho... and INTEL is NOT hype , dont take it out of context ... INTELs a great system if thats what you want , I just couldnt see spending $500 more for it thats all .. DONT GET SO EXCITED pssssssssssst. I can afford to upgrade if I wanted too , but why would I when my 939 system is just fine?

Of course the 4 gigs of ram made a large difference, but multi tasking in general is a hugely different experience with four cores.

If you don't want to spend the money for Intel then don't...but honestly don't bash people who do buy Intel. That's like me making fun of you for being too poor to afford Intel parts...it's a d-bag thing to do.
If "ANYTHING " in my statement isnt true then feel free to correct me ... its always about price vs. performance isnt it?

I always run what is best for what I run no matter the brand or what it is really, today I paid $300 for a q6700 just to get to my door and to just be dissapointed in the fps I was getting while gaming compared to my $200 e8400 so what am I gonna do? well sell the q and run the e8400 cause its better for what I need.I had an amd 6000 or whatever it was scored like 12k on 06*switched to intel and got that to 19k and trust me I see the difference in everything I do...

@OP

In the end you didn't loose anything but a couple of hours, but the experience is priceless.
The lesson imo is that expensive is not necessarily good; I know many people that get a better (read expensive) bike, better running shoes, more expensive tshirts, but they do sweat if it's hot, don't really run faster or manage to climb higher mountains on the bike. It's also a matter of personal limits, what can YOU do with what you buy. Many have said, if you don't encode, why bother? Games need GPUs, not CPUs and it's a known fact since 1998 when Vodoo2 grapchics accelerator appeared: you could game much better on a Pentium1 non-mmx + a vodoo2 than on a P3 with an S3Trio integrated.

My 2 cents.

Do your homework next time and you will save yourself some embarrassment. Coming into an Intel thread and getting another in a long line of Intel vs. Amd flame wars started because you didn't research what you were buying vs. what you needed......Bad mojo bro.

I'm not bashing you bro, I'm just saying look before you leap.

P.S. I have absolutely nothing against AMD. We have 4 PC's in my house 3 are AMD, My Daughter, Son and Wife did not need Intel's so I did not buy them.
