I'm not bashing you bro, I'm just saying look before you leap.

P.S. I have absolutely nothing against AMD. We have 4 PC's in my house 3 are AMD, My Daughter, Son and Wife did not need Intel's so I did not buy them.
Dude, that's totally unnecessary. He did research it before he bought it--and to be honest, if he started a "should I upgrade to an E8400" thread here on OCN, I guarantee you, 95% of the people that would post would say, "ZOMG, Yes! U'll see a huge difference!" So don't go around saying that he should do his research, 'cause he said he asked people and they suggested that he should definitely do the change. It's not his fault that it didn't work out as he had hoped. And it's not like there was any sort of real flame war going on, just people with differing opinions of what to use, and what to use it for--to be honest, it was one of the more civil discussions of AMD vs. Intel I've seen around here.

Well you obviously dont care and if you researched it then you would of known that intel>amd for benchmarking but for everyday regular apps and say loading stuff its about the same, but now if you are a gamer then you will see a huge difference in game play cause it would run smoother due to the much higher fps. If you dont think it helps fps having the e8400 over the 3200 amd then prove it to use and show us some screenies of say crysis running with the fps you are getting.

I think my common sense must rank higher than yours when my athlon can run everything all my games, boot windows, run programs in windows just as fast as a superior processor.
lol then why did you "waste" your money then??? Now that doesnt make sense lol

And like I said before I dont do video encoding or anything so benchmarks and video encoding mean nothing to me. But if it makes ur epeen bigger to have spent more money than me for essentially the same real world performance then more power to you.
I dunno about you but I like playing crysis on my 1080p projector with very high settings and still managin 40fps++

heres a screenie

There's absolutely no way you're running crysis at 1080 with 16x AA. I see the screenie, and I see that 16x AA is selected, but I don't have it in me to believe that you can play crysis with 16x AA, even with a 9800GX2... that just blows my mind...

XFX 8800GTS Alpha Dog

Only thing I switched was my motherboard and processor.

I had an EVGA 590 and an Athlon 64 x2 3800

I honestly can say that I noticed almost no difference in speed. I dunno if Im just expecting too much, but everyone I talked to and everything I read said to buy this processor.

And honestly it loaded up my battlefield 2142 maybe 2 seconds faster. UT3 same thing. And crysis changed to say I could run at high instead of medium(but everyone says that game is coded so poorly its not a good benchmark)

Was I just expecting too much? Or what? I thought coming from a 1.9ghz proc with a 512k L2 cache this increase would be huge.

Or maybe not, I dunno. But this upgrade was definately not worth the almost 500 I spent on it.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions..... Id like to keep it if I can see a real difference
You're joking right? I've changed from a E6300@1,8 to an E8400@3Ghz and my 3DMark'06 score went from around 6000 to 11000(almost double!)! And E6300 is somewhat equal in performance with X2 3600+! I get more fps on all games especially with AA on!
You will not notice any performance improvements over 4Ghz with GF8800GTS but X2 3600+ was surely a bottleneck for the graphic card!

Boonie2 you have no idea what your talking about and your starting to piss me off. You think AMD is king well I have to tell you, "its not" and by the way, a lot of people use Intel so, watch what you say around here.

For crying out loud if this guy does not see a performance increase from going from a Athlon x2 3600 to an e8400 then somebody slap him with a bag of bricks. Talking about how that's not worth his money and this is not worth his money but you go out and buy a 750gb harddrive when you could of kept the nice system? Wow no words. Why don't you just go back to a pentium 2 300mhz, that served me well until about 3 years ago when I started gaming, you can type really fast in Microsoft Word and you certainly don't have to run any "benches".

ZOMG!!! If you jump off of the golden gate bridge it wont hurt!!! C'mon man.

Ask for opinions yes, but NEVER take them as fact until you look for yourself. Use your own brain to narrow down the field then ask opinions on a few you found to be suited to your needs. Christ man use common sense.

Triplesec -- he upgraded from a 1.9GHz AMD to a 3GHz Core2 45nm and couldn't perceive a difference in speed. He did his research, and his research was correct. That's a massive upgrade and well worth the price in (almost) all of our minds.

I don't believe this is about the quality of his research or whether he should have tried something himself first. I'm really not sure what system configuration would stir him.

There is alot of difference but upgrating when you dont have lag in games its stupid. For example i get some very little lag in same new games so i have to upgrade. In his situation the CPU was holding him back but even if he got a faster CPU the old one did fine not to notice any lagg if like many of us dont look at fps while playing. He probably got over 30 with his old CPU now he get 50 or more but its the same you will not see the difference only in very demanding CPU games where X2 will fall behind.
