Phenom 9600 or X2 6000+

Thread Starter
Im on the fence. Im trying to determine what processor will better suit my needs. I do alot of music production using Reason 4 and Ableton 7. (Lots of stuff going on at once). Also some mild gaming. (CS:S, DOD:S, WOW). I'm using onboard sound and video for now. also using some PC2-5300 and have some 6400 on the way but im not too sure of the quality.

Delema,

What would be my best choice for my needs? Is a restricted 9600 better than a X2 6000+

EDIT: The MOBO is only AM2 with "support" for AM2+. I have updated to the current BIOS as well. So I know using the phenom I will be restricting the HT)

Personally i am a big fan of Quads (AMD of Intel). So i would say phenom.

I would say phenom even more because you do alot of music production,

For music editing, I would think the Quad-core would be the better option, if your motherboard can support it that is.

My 6000+ never let me down, i ran her about a constant 3.3-4ish. Never owned a phenom though. My chip that i had treated me well, played all the games you play just fine with a 7900gt, i'd say if you're looking at spending more go for the phenom, but if you wanna save a few bucks go for that 6000+ that brisbane is a good little core

good luck making that choice mate

Personally i would go for a quad. A phenom 9x50 with a AM2+ mobo. Quad will give you a huge multi tasking performance. Specially when you are doing music edition. But if you don't want to upgrade the mobo then go for the x2.

swimmingly means good I hope

With what you do, I'd say quad all the way.
