You may have been better off with that old Q6600... my VID is 1.2250, so you must have had a pretty good cpu there.

If you think about moving to a 45nm, they are pretty good for overclocking, but you really have to watch the volts.

I don't know where you've got the assumption that software threads are assigned to cores in chronological order, but it doesn't work like that. New threads are assigned to whichever core has the most resources free at the time that a command needs to be executed.
