My current XP Home is a OEM and I had no problem moving it from my old socket A system, just had to call Microsoft for a key.

Before a simply call you naive, ignorant, and an idiot, I will give you a chance to redeem yourself via one simple question:

Can you provide an example of hardware that has drivers for Vista 64, but not XP x64?

I don't think I need to make a list here. I think it is pretty much consensus that x64 XP sucked hard in terms of support while Vista x64 really isn't much different from the x86 version. No need to prove a truism. But if you really want, I'll provide a list when I have time to look all eight million of them up.

dual boot

Really the problem I seem to have so far is in Vista X64 is that it won't load kernel-level drivers which means pretty much any hardware monitoring software will fail to run properly. This is not a problem if you don't overclock and just want to run stock. If you're like me and have a desperate need for temperature readings/voltage monitoring you're SOL for now.

Core temp ver 0.99 works with Vista x64. I have it running right now So does Smart Guardian if you have a DFI mobo. I miss my Speed Fan, tho...

DOH! New version says it works with Vista X64. Nice Installing now. Out of all the programs I use to monitor stuff the only one that didn't work was HD Tach. So I used HD Tune instead.

To the OP, Vista Home Premium 64 is a great OS, but you do have to have a stout computer to get the full benefits. I wish my other two pc's were robust enough to actually enjoy Vista if i put it on them.

Hauppage 150 PVR tv tuner

i could not get the card working for the life of me, but vista had the drivers and integrated into media center off the bat. i downloaded countless drivers and could not get it to work at all. i still dual boot xp 32 for pocket pc stuff involving activesync and the likes, but vista 64 is my primary OS.

So in other words, there is a list of 8,000,000 different devices with driver support in Vista x64, but not in XP x64, and you are unable to provide a single example? What about a link to the list? I'm interested in seeing it.

Thanks for actually trying to provide an example; however, take a look at this:

That is considered Piracy. OEM software is to be used on only 1 system ever (it is tied to the motherboard). Installing it on another system is in violation of the TOS you agree to when you hit F8 when installing windows.
Just because MS gave you another key does not make it legal or right.

Good read on OEM
awww man, used post 1,500 on this...
