Windows office costs that much?
Holy _...
You can still do better, buy two of those 3850 and xfire.
Also, WD 640GB is also 99.99, and is faster than the Seagate, though the Seagate does have 16mb more cache...

That ram works and o/c's very well. Alot of members (including myself) have this RAM, and are very pleased with it.

That RAM is $150 on ncix.com. But I think i'll price it out via ncix and see what happens vs memory express.

His dad is not gaming why xfire? He only needs HD video and HDMI. A low class Radeon 3XXX should be enough.

What part of NO GAMING do you not understand?

I also believe that the Q9300 is not a good choice. A Q6600 or Q6700 is a much better choice. Cheaper and easier to clock higher.

EDIT: Christ I didn't realize you were in Canada. Microsoft office home and student edition is 129.95 from that store. What do you need in Ultimate that warrants the insanely high premium?
He needs the power, or wants it at least. Like I said, he was a software developer with his own company for 20 odd years, out for 15, and now getting back in. I think he also likes his machines to do seti or folding in the offtime.

And why is everyone so hard on the q9300? Freakin 45nm for ~$300 people!

NANOTECHNOLOGY, the laws of physics are breaking down....lets do it!

The q9300 will outperform the q6600 by as much as 15% in some cases, all while using waayyyyy less power.

What would be the pros of the q6700 over the q9300?
  1. It has a 10x multiplier (the Q9300 only has a 7.5x multiplier which really limits overclocks)
  2. It beats a Q9300 at stock speeds

Hey everyone,

Karnak's wife here and I must say that I really don't much about building computers but karnak asked me to read this thread and I feel compelled to comment.

karnak does need to remember that he's not building a computer for himself but at the same time the acorn doesn't fall far from the tree and his dad will want the ****.
