Feedback on 9800gtx sli?

Thread Starter
I have a buyer for my pair of 8800gts 512's.

I can get a pair of BFG 9800GTX, the OCX version (their highest factory overclocked model) for $30 more than I am selling my GTS cards so I consider it worth it.

Also, the buyer is taking my Seasonic M12 700W power supply. I am replacing it with the Corsair 1000w model (which I have wanted for quite awhile. The seasonic m12 is amazing as well). My eventual plan is to go tri-sli (thus the need for the 9800gtx series). The corsair 1000w is tri-sli certified for the 9800gtx series as well.

Question is, what kind of benches are out there for the 9800gtx in sli?

I've seen single card scores, hardocp has a review on the BFG OCX model and the factory overclock helps as well (although I could easily overclock my self with riva tuner). One thing I am concerned about is heat as the 3 cards are going to be wedged together pretty tight. I'll probably leave them at the factory oc level at first.

My 8800gts in sli at stock speeds (with my cpu at 4 ghz) give me 21437 in 3dmark06. I just reloaded riva so I'll see what I can get with overclocks.

I can't see a negative to getting the cards given that I only have to shell out $30 and then I'll be lined up for tri-sli (will have to go to vista as well, not happy about that part....) but it would be interesting to see what other members have gotten in scores.

thanks

I heard that with two cards, they scale about the same as the 8800512s, but the third card will only bump it by a bit. Cant speak from experience though.

I've read that as well. I'm hoping by the time I am ready for the third card and vista that driver's will provide better scaling.

I think if you push the card's clocks a bit, it could make up for performance even with the poor scaling. TriSLI 9800s at 800core would be pretty sweet.

I've got two 9800GTX's and I only get 15000 on 3dmark06 with everything at stock
(E8400 @ 3.0Ghz). It's not worth it to get a third 9800GTX because the performance increase is negligable. I've never oc'd my graphics cards, that's actally why I'm on here now... Do I use Riva Tuner, or is there another way you'd suggest???

I have got 3 9800gtx's evga ko edition and have come off of having 2x 8800gts 512's xfx alphadogs. And i can tell you straight there is a MASSIVE difference not so big in benchmarking but in real gameplay the extra power is clear too see my frame rates on all games went through the roof and seeing as i play @ 1080p on a 42" lcd thats a big deal too me .
I score P14565 on 3dmark vantage.and 22379 in 3dmark06(dont use 06 now just too old for 9800series)
My crysis benchmark @1920x1080 all on VHIGH average is over 55fps .
All on vista 64 in dx10.
So i would say go for it you will see a improvement but more in real gaming than benching. But just too remind you the 9900 series are out on june 18 so maybe wait for these if reports are true they are the true step up from the 8800 gtx. i will be using my evga step for 3 of those babies

I thought about the 9900's as well. The good thing is with the bfg 9800gtx, there is a 100 day step up as well. If I get two now and see that the 9900's are far superior, I will use the step up to replace both.
