1GB of VRAM on an 8600GT is kinda stupid. Just get a 512mb version.

What do you mean by "numbers"? CPU clock, timings, temps???

I would, but it was on sale for dirt cheap. Ive already put it together today, now ive gotta tweak it. Yes cpu clock, temps..ect. I also would like to know how the set the timings, im not familiar with the gigabyte as my last build was asus and was also my first. What should I set the voltages to? I dont wanna push it to far as it must remain somewhat durable.

I have a 5000+ BE and I find 3.0ghz to be stable. I just raised the multiplier to 15.5x i believe. The vcore for the CPU can stay at stock if it is going to run at 3.0ghz. For memory, I kept mine the same, then again I never overclock memory.

What should I expect for safe numbers and how do I set the memory timing in the bios, im use to asus.

As you can see from my sig, I have that board and exact RAM.

When isolating reference clock, I got it to boot all the way to about 350MHZ, but I doubt it was stable (it did pass 2 min orthos). In order to hit 240 on your reference clock, you will have to lower your HT to 4x to continue. Once you hit about 280-300, you will have to lower it to 3x. This seems to be the exact case with myself and a couple of folks here with this board, so expect the same results.

As for the RAM, I was able to get it stable on MemTest at like 1050 Mhz or so. That seems to be about the limit for this set of Corsair XMS2.

I have a very stable stock Vcore O'C at 2.8GHZ and can hit a stable 3.0Ghz on a little extra Vcore. (Keep in mind, I don't have your same CPU, so your results will vary on the total OC).

NOTICE: on this board you cannot adjust Vcore directly, you can only adjust CPUvid. I have noticed that when my CPUvid is set at 1.3, I usually idle at 1.33 and load at 1.35 or so. In other words, you will have to take into consideration that your Vcore will ALWAYS be a little higher than what you set CPUvid at. Just tinker with it and you can get it where you want it.

One thing to note: Don't forget to hit "Ctrl-F1" when you enter BIOS in order to bring up all the overclock options.

thank you so much. It appears to be stable at 3.0 as of now, and that should be fine for most of the games he will play. I got the whole build for under 400 bucks. I had the hard drive and os already.. so under 600 for a nice build, sweet!
