Did you guys read anything but the title... I mean really.

HE WASN'T TORRENTING. He ran a server for one of the groups that cracks the software. He deserves every bit of jail he's getting, he wasn't just some 12 year old kid who left kazaa on.

Well aware. This should be a strictly civil case.

Though, the article is a bit unclear in regards to what he exactly did. Sure, it says he hosted files on his server. I find it hard to believe someone hosting a server in the US would put a bunch of illegal files on it. Chances are, he was busted for hosting a torrent tracker, which is far from being illegal, and hardly justifies the 5 year jail sentence... Or the fine, for that matter.

The local news posted an article where the local police sergeant tells that a 7.5 million dollar pot bust a couple weeks ago was scored using a tip from a resident in the neighborhood, and then went on to talk about how much tips from citizens help, the neighborhood watch program, blah, blah, blah... while in actuality the info came from the SCE lineman that went out on a field call to investigate why a transformer had blown on a residential line with only three houses attached. If that transformer hadn't blown... the police wouldn't have gotten to have any punch and pie.

Moral of the story, don't believe everything you read. Also, investigate the word "sensationalism".

I completely agree with you there. People think companies have no souls but allot of people worked on games, music, etc.

Go google some of the lawsuits the MPAA/RIAA has filed. If that isn't considered soulless, I don't know what is.

Things like this to absolutely nothing to slow down piracy. If anything, they just expand it. Slapping people with fines they can't pay and jail time is not the solution.
