Q6600 G0 + XFX 790i

Hello, I am not sure if I am posting in the correct place (the forum is very big )

Now, I bought some days ago a new system, first I will show my specs;

CPU:Q6600 G0 2.4ghz (no oc)
Mobo: XFX 790i ultra (I dont know the bios version)
Mem: Corsair TW3X4G1600C9DHX 4096 MB, PC3-12800, 1600 MHz, 9, Non-ECC, Kit Of 2
CPU cooler: Xigmatek HDT-S1283
Video: 2x Club3D GeForce 9800 GX2 1024 MB
PSU: Thermaltake Thoughpower 1200W Cable Management
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate x64 + SP1
Mon: 22-inch Samsung 226bw

Why did I take a Q6600 G0 ? I took it because I heard this processor is nice for OC, but I am having a lot of issues at the moment, even increasing it a bit the system became unstable and need to reset the bios

Now, I found many guides in this site how to overclock the Q6600 , but I didn't find yet a guide of the XFX 790i , because this mobo have diferents options, also I read people using the divider 1:2 (the XFX doesnt have it ).

The thing is , I want to OC my cpu and use my memory at his high speed. Is the Xigmatek HDT-S1283 good for OC ?

My CPU temparature goes +60º without OC ! at factory default (2.4ghz).

Without OC I am able to run Unreal Tournament 3 at all high settings without issues, I can run also Jericho at all high settings (but a few parts it seems that I have some FPS lags) , BioShock runs smooth at all high settings.

I have also the original Crysis , with the latest patches (1.2.1) , but I can't run Crysis ! I am not able to find a stable configuration for it (all high settings at 1680x1050). It was suppose that with Quad SLI it was possible , but I thing I am dong something wrong here , and as I said , I cannot OC my CPU , as soon I change the settings in the bios my system stop running and keep crashing (Prime95 giving me all errors with I tried to OC my cpu)

I heard that Crysis was possible to play at 1680x1050 with 2x AA , but for me thats not possible at least without OCing my CPU + Mem.

It is possible for me to OC my cpu and run my memory at his high speed and have a stable system at the same time ? Do I need to upgrade the Bios Version to have more settings available ?

Thanks.

Your temperatures should be dealt with first. 60C under load is very high for a Q6600 at stock, especially with that cooler. I would reseat the cooler with a correct amount of thermal grease, then see what happens. After that you can worry about overclocking.

Thanks for your answers. And yeah , I though with the Xigmatek HDT-S1283 the temperature wouldn't be a problem , I will check again my cooler. (I check the temperature with the Nvidia software System monitor , maybe is not accureate ?)

@ Robilar , I will check it , I didn't know the evga 790i's bios is identical.

LOLZ !

I downloaded CoreTemp , and it says the temperature of my CPU is under 40 (about 35/38) degrees idle !! and the Nvidia System monitor still saying my CPU temperature on idle is 60+ degrees ! thats a huge diference, thankls yannis7777 , at least now I can see that the temperate is ok.

ok , do this...

go into bios , make FSB 1600

vcore set to 1.5125v
nforce voltage set to 1.45v
memory unlinked run at stock settings....and speeds...
nforce spp auto

everything else auto

gl , hf....

see if that works

Thats the thing, how I put 1600 FSB ? I mean , where exactly , and what do you mean by nforce volt ?

and running the mem unlinked at stock (9-9-9-24 1600mhz 1.8v/1.5v) It even doesnt boot

I have tried that , windows boot etc. but Prime95 is giving errors, its not stable, I left the multiplier at 9x , so it went to 3.6 ghz and 1600mhz , temperature around 40º idle and using prime95 the temperature went to max 60º, but it doesn't work . The memory is using at the moment T2.

the only stable oc right now is all in auto, processor at 2.4ghz fsb 1067 , and memory at auto (also 1067 mhz).

Still I believe I can oc to a stable config.

Any help ?

Cheers.
