2x4 12V or ATX_12V_2X for Q6700 w/Gigabyte board?

Hi Everyone,

This is my first build and post and a big thanks for all the info you have shared in helping me decide on my build!

I have a Gigabyte GA-EX38-DS4 board with a Quad Q6700 processor. The PSU is a Corsair HX620W.

I'm not 100% clear on which cpu power connector I should used. The Gigabyte manual on page 23 states: "Use of a power supply providing a 2x4 12V power connector is recommended by the CPU manufacture when using an Intel Extreme Edition CPU (130W)."

The Quad Q6700 is not labeled as an Extreme so I should not be using 2x4 12V correct? I just want to make sure!

The cpu power connector has a protective cover on half of it to make it a 2x2 ATX_12V_2X, if I pull the cover off it becomes 2x4 12V.

Best,

John V.

Cool man! Thanks!

The way it's written in the manual I would have gone with the 2x2. Glad I went with my gut and decided to ask here.

Best,

John V.
