X3, whoever wrote that article in taking sides with ATI clearly. I love how at the end he says that GT280 is going to lose badly to the R770 while G280 will cost like $200 more. Theres no way that it's going to lose to R770 considering it's crazy specs and the fact that R770 is supposedly only 1.3X faster than a single 9800GTX.

No. If I read correctly, they stated that the 4870x2 would beat the GTX 280 and still cost less.

The 4870X2 isn't expected to be released for another 4 months. I don't understand why hes trying to compare a single gpu card to a dual gpu card while the dual gpu doesn't even have a set of specs yet and isn't going to be released till Q3. I am willing to bet that Nvidia will either release a 55nm revision of GT280 (think G92) or/and release a GT280X2 by the time that the HD4870X2 is released.

I don't know how much better an improvement in power, die size, or heat output will be seen from 65nm to 55nm. Ati went from 80nm with the 2900 to 55nm with the 3800 series. It was drastic in that case, but not going a full process node isn't going to improve things that much more, especially if it's a brand new complex chip.

I thought the most recent news was the X2 in July?

Huh...

Those prices are a bit crazy, but I for one won't be trusting the inquirer alone...I want to see a solid tech source.

R700 is slated for a July release...

GT280 X2 would consume way too much power and run way too hot... Air(stock) cooling would struggle to say the least.

Wow, it does sound really biased. I was planning on getting a GTX280GX2, fully expecting it to wipe the floor with the 4870X2 as usual, but even though this is biased, I am going to hold off on getting a new card until both the 4870X2 and GTX280GX2 are out and benchmarked.

UGH, for the price of just that card was the price of my mild upgrade. I guess more likely now i'd just buy myself anther 9800GTX until Nvidia gets it straight and makes a rock-solid card.
