Hot Temperatures on 7800GT

Hm I actually had my 7800GT overclocked a bit, but I put it back to hardware defaults when I noticed some artifacting on WCIII: FT. Then I played Crysis for a bit, with it not overclocked, and it was 70 degrees Celsius after play. Yesterday when I played Crysis, with the GPU overclocked, it only hit about 65, and I just thought that that's a pretty dangerous situation. Any reasons why it's hotter on default specs?

it shouldn't be. is your fan clean? dust might be the problem. if its clean then it might just be a bad card now? not sure though.

Try reseating the cooler and apply some fresh thermal paste.

I do kind of think it's a bad card. It has never been able to overclock as well as it should, and it's my only computer component with soaring temperatures.
those differences in temp might just be due to ambients done at time of day/night differences. 70C isn't out of the range for that card, shouldn't be a problem.

So I shouldn't be worried about temperatures that high? That was during Crysis, which is easily the most intense action it ever sees.
graphics cards can take over 100c before the thermal throttling kicks in so dont worry it
post #8 of 8
Yep! GPU's can take a lot more than the 70*C your seeing during gaming, however just incase make sure nothing in your case/card is clogged up with dust and airflow is good.
