Boot menu..

Is there a shortcut to access dual boot machines during startup?

I have 2 Vista installation on 2 diffrent partitions.. the system keeps booting to the 2nd installation and I want to go back to the first...

Any ideas?

Basically im slipstreaming SP1 onto a bootable install... I can not boot into the second installation or the slipstream will fail..

I need to know I can access the dual boot menu WITHOUT going to the desktop to edit the boot.ini and such.....

Next time you install multiboot OSs use the same boot drive for both installs.
The Boot sector, MBR and boot files all go onto the drive that is set as the boot drive (no matter where you put the actual Windows files) for the install. When a second install is done (with the same boot drive set) those files are modified to reflect the multiboot installation and a boot memu will then be presented on every boot up.

You have two drives, both with boot sectors, MBRs and boot files. Which ever drive is set as the boot drive now it's boot sector, MBR and boot files will be used to boot the OS they point to.

You can either constantly change the boot drive in the BIOS, or edit (which the second Vista install would have done) the Vista boot loader manually. See MS help and support for information on how to use Vista's BCD editor.

it will let you choose what hd to boot from
so if xp is on hd 1 boot from that one
if vista is on 2 then boot from the second hd

Well right now I do have BOTH installations on the same physical drive. IE 2 diffrent partitions..

Now when I install the SP1 on the 2nd installation.. Im going about it kind of weird.. During the installation.. at the enter name /pass screen whatever im going to the Audit Mode.. than installing SP1.. when SP1 is done configuring the system goes back to Audit mode which is fine..

I can than shutdown the system from there.. When I goto start the system back up.. there is no Boot Menu.. it starts booting stright into the 2nd installation to finilize the SP1 install... I am trying to break into this.. to boot from my first install...

Well that would require I boot into the 2nd OS (automatically to finilize SP1) than use that........but I am trying to boot stright back into the 1st installation... without ever seeing the 2nd installation again
