Please critique my new Phenom rig - Page 2

Only issue I see is the DVD drive.
You have a DVD Burner, but no CD Reader/Burner or DVD Reader.
Get a combo Samsung drive:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827151154

And If you want a HD3870, Get the Best: Sapphire TOXIC.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102732

Sounds like your undecided on your Heatsink/Fan, so I'll leave that to you.

It's 100% for having an easy hookup for my digital cameras memory card. I don't need a floppy.

- 3-way CrossFire at x16/x16/x4 bandwidth
- 2-way CrossFire + Physics at x16/x16 bandwidth
on the mobo i assumed he/she would be.

if not then the mobo will have pointless features unless he/she decides to in the future

Great choice. Make sure you get the Black Edition (not sure if there is a non Black Edition).

Again a great overclocker!

I haven't had any experience with these but my OCZ Platinum are amazing so I have no reason to believe these won't be.

- ATI/ASUS EAH HD 3870 512MB ~ $162
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121233

Good choice but in the current market I think an 8800GT would be better. You can even find 8800GTS 512MB for $190.

- OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI 700W ~$90
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341002

Great choice!

- AuzenTech AZT-XPCINE ~ $109

I'll stay out of it cos I'm a sound card noob.

- Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD3200AAKS 320GB ~ $70
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136074

I have heard incredible things about the Samsung Spinpoint range so I'd go for the 500GB version of this

- Koutech IO-FPM220 3.5" Floppy Drive & Multi Card Reader Front Panel ~ $30

- LITE-ON 20X DVD Burner ~ $23

Total----------$1139
Overall it looks like it will be a monster

Hey man, respect on being set with the Phenom, I see it as, it mightnt perform as well as a Q6600, but your supporting the smaller guy

The Sapphire TOXIC has VaporX cooling and a beefy software bundle, plus Sapphire has great tech support and you can OC the hell out of that card. Thats why its the best HD3870.

Looks like an ideal AMD rig. If you can hold out a bit longer I would suggest waiting to see how the 4870s perform.

Yeah, but then I'd have to pay a premium, and simply having a newer system will be more than sufficient, AND I'll finally have a mobo with PCI-e so i can always add a 4870 when i feel like it later, unlike now.

So i was reading about that....is it in the card itself or is it the heatsink? I was confused on that part.

My thoughts on it are quite known, but I don't like supporting any business that has shady practices, and I don't like what I've heard about Intel and the OEM makers. It's the same about how I choose not to shop at Wal-Mart. Could i get cheaper stuff there? Yeah. But they get cheaper stuff by screwing over their employees while producing 5-8 of the top 25 richest people in the world.

Either way, when you look at the benchies on the q6600 vs the 9850, they're not that different. Extra 5 fps or so. By the time i get to the point where 5 fps is gonna matter I'll have a new card or cpu.

I'm really psyched about this build. Most of you guys forget how it is to run firefox, winamp and limewire and have your cpu at 100%....or to switch from a game to winamp and have it take like 2 min just to toggle windows in and out of the game.....man i didn't want to spend this much though.
