GHz are better for gaming... But the diff from 3.6 to 4.0 are minimal...

Id sell the 6750 and put the money towards another 8800GTS 640 if you are seriously into gaming...

the 6850 @ 3.6-3.8 will be a fine cpu

Hey trezegol13, Very few can hit 4.0 with the 6850. If you're gaming the E8400/E8500 would be much better for you. If you can afford it get the E8500, you're most likely to hit 4.0+ with it.
As far as why 3D mark06 are different, what multi/FSB were you running for each? Was your 8800 Oced? Did you try running it several times? It could be many things. Like if you switched CPUs did you reformat when you switched? Did anything else change? It could be many things.

trezegol13, it seems like 8X is better than 9X, for you anyway. Your FSB with the 6750 was 438(?) and 6850 was 422(?) so that MIGHT have helped. Reformatting could also have helped also, but think about it like this. When you used the 6750 you probably had less on your HDD than when you used the 6850. More stuff on your HDD potentially could slow you down. Before I run any benchmark I run ENDITALL2 a program that stops most or all background programs. It isn't perfect, but it helps a lot.
All this is speculation, but you could try it to see if any of this helps.
If you opt for upgrading your CPU, I wouldn't bother with this. And if you upgrade, I'd reformat.
