My Q6600 Only 2 Cores in BIOS? *** [EMERGENCY]

Thread Starter
I'm not sure what happened... but now I'm only seeing 2 Cores instead of 4 in the BIOS. There is no option to select the Core 3 and 4 to on. Only Core 2 has the option to be enabled or disabled.

What Happened? I'm running it on an EVGA 680i board.

Did you have a Dual core in it before? If so I would clear the CMOS.

The 680i A1 board does have an option to disable the other 2 cores. I can't remember where it is off the top of my head. I do have that board, I know its in there.

Did you look in the task manager in the performance tab ? BIOS MAY not be reading it right.

this happend to me too, i upgraded my BIOS and it reported 2 cores. It still did till i upgraded again but i had 2 cores for about a month

all i did was upgrade the bios, not change the cpu or anything

sorry i cant hep, short of clearing the CMOS there is not alot you can do. don't think it's important, aslong as you still see 2 in windows.

Will clear the CMOS.

This hasn't happened before - this is the first. Very odd.

As feared - Clearing CMOS does nothing.

I dont plan on re-seating the CPU - but maybe a BIOS update sounds like a good idea.

Does any1 know what is the most recent BIOS update for my board?

Updated the BIOS to P32. Loaded / reset original CMOS values.

Problem is still there. This is getting me worried.

Don't just reset CMOS. Unplug the PC from the wall, take out the CMOS battery, reset with the switch or whatever, and plug up everything again after a few minutes.

That is what I call a CMOS Reset. I did that before upgrading the BIOS.
